OUR HISTORY
In 2000, four families felt a need to create a place where they could be themselves, meet others in their city who wanted to know God, and explore this mystery together.
They wanted to offer a place that was different and accepting of all people in every walk of life--especially the outcasts and the others. (Isaiah 56:8)
On October 21, 2000, Ahop Church held its first gathering in an American Legion hall. About 150 people showed up to experience a “come as you are” environment. The goal wasn’t quantity of people, rather it was quality of encounters. We wanted to take a journey together.
How did we get where we are?
It’s been a wild ride. Doing “church” in a way that your city has never seen can be challenging, but very rewarding. From coming together to setup and tear down every week in a rented space, to purchasing our first building, to renovating and moving into our main campus, it was and continues to be the faith and hard work of our community combined with the goodness of God that has allowed us to impact the city we love and empower our community to change the world. This is and has always been who we are as a community in Xenia.
We have faced incredible adversity in the past, dating back to years before AHOP Church was in existence. Pulling together, trusting God and working as friends is the recipe for overcoming storms and building, or even rebuilding, beautiful things.
So where are we going?
Where God leads us is where we want to go. Our short history tells us that God is not opposed to mixing things up and keeping us on our toes. We don’t have it all figured out, but if you are looking for a church where you are treated like family, accepted just like you are and encouraged to be the best you that can be--oh, and by the way, have fun while on this journey of life--plan a visit to meet us! We’ll be happy to save you a seat.
